MOTS-C — Mitochondrial-Derived Peptide
MOTS-C is a short peptide encoded inside the mitochondrial genome itself, making it part of a rare class called mitochondrial-derived peptides. It activates AMPK signaling, a cellular pathway involved in energy sensing and metabolic balance. Research has studied it in models of glucose regulation, cellular stress response, and aging biology.
